I have had a stressful week and been annoyed more than ever with the school year winding down. I apologize for my rant in my last blog and the continuation of my rant in my vocab story. Spalding if you're reading this sorry bout that. Anyway as I mentioned the school year is coming to a close and with me being in government we have to do a community service project. The essay is due next Friday and when Cortese brought it up again it made me laugh when the rest of my classmates were freaking out when they realized they haven't done anything yet. I have volunteered at the hospital for the past 2 1/2 years and I love it, for the most part, I really wish I started when I was a freshmen. I get to interact with many other kids in other schools all across cortland county and get to witness the fine acts of people. In the hospital I have been in the coffee shop, information desk, adult daycare, nursing home, and all of that has been a great experience. For the most part I love old people more than ever. I have also volunteered at Loaves and Fishes where you serve meals to the less fortunate. That is my passion, when I move to Alabama I would love to open up a homeless shelter/ soup kitchen. Possibly a place where kids on the street can go and get off the streets and have a nice home cooked meal. Anyway the whole point of this blog was to say community service makes you a better person, opens up your eyes, and makes you realize what you have is a lot more than a lot of people out there so count your blessings. Also you shouldn't wait for a paper that says you have to do community service in order to graduate, you should already be taking part in that, it's a great thing.
As you are finding out, most of your classmates are too wrapped up in their own drama to care about things like helping out in the community. I think community service is a nice requirement, but sadly it really doesn't do what it is supposed to do: make students see how they can lend a hand to those who might need it. Mostly, students just bitch about having to do it. Nice job, A!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right I would like to start my own fundraiser for a cause. Anyway we all should help out in the community more often.
